Made with intention

How every Royal piece is made

Three makers. One rule: only build what we’d still want to carry in ten years. Every wallet goes through a single set of hands from cut to finish.

01

Leather selection

We source only full-grain leather — the highest grade, cut from the top layer of the hide where the grain is tightest and most durable. Hides with inconsistent texture, loose grain, or uneven weight are rejected before cutting. Roughly 30% of incoming hides do not make it past this step.

Full-grain · Chrome-free tanning · Natural finish

02

Pattern cutting

Each piece is cut by hand using precision steel dies. There is no computer-controlled cutting — the cutter reads the hide and positions each pattern piece to avoid natural blemishes and maximize grain consistency. A single mistake wastes the entire panel.

Hand-cut · Steel dies · Panel inspection

03

Edge finishing

Raw edges are beveled, burnished with water and wood, and finished with multiple coats of edge paint — a process that takes longer than the cutting itself. This is what separates a premium piece from a commodity product. Finished edges don't fray.

Beveled · Burnished · Edge painted

04

Stitching

Load-bearing seams are saddle-stitched by hand — two needles, one thread, pulled from both sides simultaneously. This creates a lock-stitch that cannot unravel. Even if one side breaks, the other holds. Machine-stitched pieces fail when a single thread breaks.

Saddle-stitch · 8 SPI · Waxed thread

05

Hardware + assembly

Brass and steel hardware is set with a press, not glued. Rivets are double-capped. Snap closures are tested through 500 open/close cycles before shipping. Every piece is assembled by the same hands that cut it.

Solid brass · Press-set · 500-cycle tested

06

Final inspection

Each finished piece is inspected under direct light for stitch consistency, edge quality, hardware alignment, and leather uniformity. Pieces that don't meet standard are reworked or discarded — not discounted.
